How to Help My Children Get Into Glass Blowing and Glass Art

My daughters fell in love with glass blowing afterwards going to the Chihuly exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts a few years ago. They wanted to learn how to blow glass and there is a glass blowing schoolhouse (Diablo Glass) near the museum, simply, of grade, it was booked solid for a year later on the evidence.

Nosotros waited a twelvemonth and tried again, and they both got a spot for a week long camp during the summer. Information technology was a hot summer, as I recall. My younger daughter, PickyKidPix, was just twelve years former, and I had to get special permission to let her enroll. I actually wanted her to do it because she didn't think of herself every bit artistic but actually wanted to larn glass blowing.

My girls are excited to go back to the accident torch glass studio this summer. They find it relaxing to work with glass. I like how hot glass gives a Growth Mindset perspective to art since many kids, like PickyKidPix, think that if they can't depict realistically, they are not artistic.

Hot drinking glass, on the other mitt, is a physical art form that takes the same kind of grooming that my daughter would put into a new sport that she's learning. It's about instruction, and do. Anyone can learn and improve.

PickyKidPix makes a fish which she says is actually easy (so don't exist impressed). But still, it's a fish. Fabricated of drinking glass. Which makes her a drinking glass artist!

And the overnice affair about hot drinking glass is that if you lot break your piece while sculpting information technology, you lot just have to melt the ends to reattach it. Information technology's similar "presto, all fixed."

Nosotros are doing a west declension trip this summer so my oldest tin visit fine art schools in California and Vancouver, British Columbia. One leg of the trip will be driving from San Francisco to B.C., and this is to allow a pitstop in Seattle to see Chihuly Garden and Glass. In that location also might exist plans being laid to stalk him at his studio in hopes of a sighting. I tin can't comment on that, of grade. But wish the states luck.
